SEN

All children are entitled to follow a broad and balanced curriculum. Some children need extra help because of learning difficulties, physical disabilities or emotional / behavioural needs. Some children have particular gifts or talents.

The school has screening procedures for identifying and assessing children’s educational needs. We have a Special Needs Co-ordinator who works alongside the class teachers and learning support assistants to plan the educational provision for children with special educational needs. Parents and carers are regularly consulted and kept informed.

SEND Vision

At St Augustine’s Primary School, we believe passionately in the importance of inclusion and equality for all children and adults, and strive to ensure that these values are at the heart of our SEND practices.

We will always involve parents and children in key decisions, as well as planning and reviewing progress; we know that parents are the first educators of their child and that we need their knowledge and co-operation to plan effectively.
We know that the earlier we identify SEND and provide support, the more successful our children will be.
We are committed to providing expert support and resources for children with SEND to fulfil their individual potential.
Our starting point is to guarantee a whole -school approach to providing for the needs of children with SEND. In other words, we make sure that all staff have the knowledge and skills to support all children, including those with SEND, throughout our School.

Our SENCO:

Mrs Peebles

Her responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring that children with SEND are identified as early as possible and that they then get the appropriate help and support in order to achieve their potential
  • Ensuring that parents are central to the process of planning for children’s needs, through regular meetings and reviews
  • Ensuring that School staff are up to date with SEND procedures and are well trained to meet the needs of all children
  • Ensuring that the SEND Policy and the Policy on Mental Health are up to date and are being followed.
  • Liaising with other professionals from outside the School who may be involved in supporting a child and family

If you wish to speak with Mrs Peebles regarding any SEND concerns about your child please contact the school office on: 02073854333 or email:  senco@staugustinesrc.lbhf.sch.uk
