Design and Technology
Intent
At Augustine’s Catholic Primary School, we aim to develop pupils into innovative thinkers and practical problem-solvers through a high-quality Design and Technology curriculum. We want children to understand how design affects their lives and empowers them to create purposeful, user-focused solutions for real-world needs.
Through the iterative process of design, making, testing and evaluating, pupils will learn to take risks, adapt their ideas and improve their products based on thoughtful critique and evidence. They will explore key areas such as mechanisms, structures, textiles, food and digital technologies, using a range of tools and materials safely and confidently.
We want pupils to draw on knowledge from across the curriculum—including maths, science and computing—to design with function, aesthetics, and sustainability in mind. They will learn about significant designers, engineers and inventors from the past and present, gaining insight into how design and technology have influenced our world.
By fostering curiosity, resilience and collaboration, we aim to equip children with practical skills, critical thinking and creativity that prepare them to meet the challenges of an ever-evolving technological world.
“Design is not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it works.” – Steve Jobs
